The heart governs the course of our lives. "When the heart opens, we fall in love.....when it happens to close, the love stops".. When the heart hurts, we get angry...and empty. The heart has many changes and the shifts and variations that take place in the heart run your life. "But in truth, you are not your heart. You are the experience of your heart." So writes Michael Singer in his book The Untethered Soul.
In my work and in my life, it is the intention to help open the heart as well as learn to keep it open more of the time. After all, giving and receiving love appears to be the main goal of being human....whether we know it, or not.
During our lifetime we are constantly negotiating with outside influences that can help us open our heart, or close it to protect the most vulnerable part of ourselves. That starts early in our lives and continues to build. People usually come to therapy as a result of a wounded heart. With a warm and safe environment, we can start to open to awareness of our own hearts, start the healing process and move out into the world, into important relationships in a new way that feels SO much better.
